Life is like the ocean

1471113309254.jpgMy wise cousin once told me, that everything you do in life, is like a ripple effect that will determine your future (Thanks kyllian).

Life is like the ocean, during our infancy and childhood its calm, serene and peaceful. The ocean has so much depth, there’s so much more to explore (12 400 ft to be exact) and much of this is still yet to be discovered. As it is in life, there is so much that lies ahead of us. The scary thing is that we are completely unaware of what to expect.

Suddenly, the oceans may rise, the storm could kick in, causing colossal waves to come crashing down on us. Without warning, we feel defeated. The storms in our life has lead us to exhaustion. In life, we’re drowning. Whether it be finances, relationships, work, stress or family. Hardships, however, don’t last long, and all things come to an end.

Ensuingly, The storm will come to an end, the ocean will calm. And look at you, still surving. Overcoming everything that you have been through thus far. You’re prepared now. As soon as that next wave comes, its up to you to ride it, or drown. Gee, that was a little harsh. But you get what I’m saying, and if you don’t here’s the moral of the story (ESV):

  • We all experience hardships in life.
  • However, if we overcame that, nothing is stopping us from dealing with hard times in the future.

Nobody said it would be easy, if they did, they’re lying, and you don’t need that kind of negativity in your life!

Top 10 Handbag Essentials

1499273827666.jpg

A woman’s mind is as complex as her handbag. Even when you get to the bottom of it, there is always something to surprise you! -Billy Connelly

If this is the case, we need to ensure that our Bags, are as organised as our minds. Which isn’t organised at all…Why did I even use this as a comparison? Let’s get right to this and forget about what I just said. So Here are Ten Tips to ensure that your handbag maintains it’s ability to sustain as much clutter as possible.. like your mind. I remember why I used that as a comparison now!

1. Note Book and Pen.

Busy women write down notes, to perpetuate their schedules, even though we’re all aware of the fact that we probably won’t adhere to it. The feeling that comes along with it is what counts 🙂 oh, and the pen really assists in times of boredom, giving you the freedom to doodle whatever comes to handbag…. I mean mind.

2. Sewing Kit

For moments when you go to hard on the dance floor.. Or when you eat one too many taco’s and your jeans cannot withstand the tension anymore! (Been there, Done that.)

3.Make-Up.

Very Very Very important. Especially if he takes you for a swim on your first date (Cringe). Here are some essential make-up Products that will really be handy, in your handbag. (See what I did there?)

  • Foundation. Just in case.
  • Lip Balm. (Moisturize those pouters!)
  • Lip Gloss/Stick. I firmly believe you can conquer the world with Red lipstick.
  • Mac’s fix+ fixing spray, is probably the best makeup Product one could keep in their bag! Not only does it moisturize your skin, but it also illuminates your make-ups pigmentation, and safeguards your makeup to last longer.  (And could also pass as pepper-spray.. for, just in case..).

4. Bubblegum or Mints

Do I even need to give a reason?

5. Selfie-Stick or Camera

You never know when you need to Capture a moment!

6.Perfume

Admittedly, we’ve all forgotten to apply roll-on when we’re late! Perfume Hack: Applying Vaseline before spritzing your perfume, makes it last longer 🙂 . You’re welcome.

7. Hand Care

Hand sanitiser and hand moisturizer is always essential, because nobody likes crocodile skin 😦

8. Sanitary Products

For girls, being Sanitary is pretty important, especially for that time of the month :(. Therefore, carrying around an extra pair of undies for emergency accidents would help a lot. Kotex also gives a free pad holder with cute patterns, for those who would like to be discrete. Life Hack: keeping  tampons in an empty lip ice container, also keeps it hidden. However, I am a firm believer in the fact that we shouldn’t be embarrassed by that.

9. I ran out of ideas

10. Same.

But anyway, I hope this really helped with keeping your handbag organised and convenient.

Until Next time 🙂

Remember to be Dauntless in every situation.

Curly hair Hacks

1490183279875.jpg

Okay so, I have nothing against straightening or blow drying your hair, but sometimes you need to give your hair a break (well I needed to) Therefore, I decided to stop applying heat to my hair and decided to go natural for a month. This is how I redefined my curls:

  1. Lots, and lots and lots of conditioner:

IMG_20170318_190326.jpg

Besides the fact that conditioner prevents my hair from looking like a frightened poodle, it also acts as a daily moisturizer. My three favorite conditioners include:

  1. KAIR’s hydro moisturizer (GUYS. ITS 20 RAND) No joke, and it provides a lot of moisture. Also, it smells really great. You’re welcome.
  2. TRESemme’s  Breakage defence, to seal up split ends and a dry scalp.

3. My ULTIMATE FAVE, Marc Anthony’s ‘Kinky Girls with wild curls’ although it is pricey, it is amazing because it is sulfate free, and sulfate dries out hair. It is also oil based (argon oil, coconut oil and avocado oil) which means not only does it provide moisture but it also locks the moisture in your hair follicles.

3.Types of towels to use:

Curly hair is generally prone to dryness, and your general woolen or cotton towel contributes to the dryness of your hair, therefore, the best towel to use if your hair is prone to dryness is a Microfibre towel because it doesn’t absorb wetness. Alternatively, you could use a normal shirt that you wear to dry out your hair (I know, it sounds weird but it works).

4. Learn the technique of finger coiling

IMG_20170318_185814

Finger coiling involves using your fingers to curl your hair while it is wet. Finger coiling creates tighter curls, and redefines your curls. All you have to do is create spirals with your hair using your finger and then wrapping it around your fingers, generally in the shower after combing out your hair. But because I sit in traffic for majority of my life, I finger coil my hair while I’m in traffic, multitasking. One hand on the steering, one in the fro.

5. Gel and Scrunch

Gel holds curls for longer, I used a curl activator gel with glycerine from Easy Waves. But right after Applying Gel, scrunching your hair in your hands, holds and tightens the curls.

IMG_20170318_184007.jpg

6.Use nylon brushes

IMG_20170318_190259.jpg

It has wider bristles, so it detangles your curls easier. (It’s never easy to detangle curls, trust. But this just assists and doesn’t puff up your hair.

7. The best DIY hair mask:

img_20161205_175811

Mix ingredients together and massage on scalp, you can either sleep with it over night or keep it in for a few hours.

Until next time,

A Social Cleanse

1485455188328.jpg

Okay, okay. I will be the first to say it. Society sucks. Within today’s day and age, it is so hard to keep up with societal pressure. I’ve tried taking a break from social media but my addiction doesn’t allow me too. However, I have limited the amount of times I use it, mainly because of the fact that most posts bring about insecurities. Insecurities that we may not feel pretty enough or be rich enough or look good enough to reach the standards of Society. If this is relatable, then a social detox is way over due.

This doesn’t only refer to social media, but your entire social circle in real life. So many things happen in this generation that it actually makes it so hard to trust people. We live in a world where humanity has completely gone downhill. A world where our circles are decreasing because our pride is increasing. A world where, because of social fame, people feel the need to document struggles instead of putting their camera’s down and lending a helping hand. A world where it is hard to differentiate friend from foe because there are only a handful of legitimately REAL people. We need to start distancing ourselves from negativity and become drawn to positivity. We need to start looking up from our phones and open up our eyes to the real world. These are a few social detoxing tips:

  • Begin by having a different mentality about yourself. Yes, we are going to come across people who are better looking, more intelligent and intimidating, but we are all unique, and those who accept you for your uniqueness are people worth having in your life.
  • Spend less time downgrading yourself.
  • Spend more time with loved ones who make you laugh, and who draw you so deep into conversation that you forget you even have a phone.
  • Go on adventures with close friends, try something new and exciting!
  • Try spending more time enhancing your mind by reading a book, AND finishing it!
  • STOP comparing yourself to other people you see on social media.
  • Most importantly, remember that there are more things to see in the world physically and not through a screen. The sky is the limit and you have a purpose, you will find it once you stop looking at the way other people are living.

Until next time,

Emergency DIY Christmas Hacks!

1482565071931.jpg

Okay, so confession time. We’ve all been too busy taking advantage of our free festive time by binge watching Gilmore girls on Netflix (well, at least I have) to realize how soon Christmas is, and by soon I mean tomorrow! So if you are in the same boat as I am, here are some quick and easy, affordable Christmas hacks!

Emergency Hack number 1: Christmas star using Pegs!

img_20161224_073458Start of by breaking off the metal hinges from wooden pegs, and with the two remaining wooden pieces, glue the flat side of each peg to each other, making groups of two :). You will need 8 pegs to do this.

IMG_20161224_073856.jpg

Make a cross, using four pegs as illustrated in the picture.

The remaining corners of the cross is where you will glue four other pegs. You can choose to either leave the peg color to create a rustic look as I have (with added glitter) or you can paint it your desired color!

IMG_20161224_080427.jpg    And Viola!

Emergency Hack number 2: Christmas Décor using used wine bottles and Christmas lights.

It is as easy as 1 2 3, all you have to do is save your used wine bottles and put battery operated fairy lights inside! like this:

Emergency hack number 3: Using toilet paper cardboard as a gift box!

IMG_20161224_081146.jpg

Collect toilet paper cardboard and fold it as illustrated in the picture on the right:)

IMG_20161224_081740.jpg

Fill it with sweeties 🙂

img_20161224_082136

Close it, wrap it, and voila!

Emergency Hack number 4: Quick and Easy Gift

So I found a jar at West Pack Lifestyle for R34.99 and I filled it up with marshmallows and sweets! (You can thank me later).

Coo-Coo about Coconut Oil.

Other than being a healthy oil to fry food with, Coconut oil has various beauty benefits. When using coconut oil for beauty benefits, it is better to use Organic virgin Coconut Oil, because it is sensitive on skin. I got a 1 litre container of organic virgin coconut oil from Dischem for R159.00 and it lasts for at least 5 months! (I know right). If you guys would like me to do a Youtube video trying out these coconut oil beauty hacks please leave a message in the comment box below, or comment on my Instagram page: @tameroncamp . So here goes:

Coconut Oil as a face mask/ Exfoliant

1480935990791
Yes, I am wearing Pajamas, oops!

This super cheap and easy exfoliant works well on all skin types and leaves your skin feeling soft and refreshed, it includes:

  • Two Tablespoons of coffee grounds (to exfoliate dead skin cells, it also smells amazing which is a bonus!)
  • One tablespoon of melted coconut oil to moisturize skin. It is important to remember that with coconut oil, a little goes a long way.
  • One tablespoon of honey to bind the mixture together.
  • Scrub on face for about a minute, or keep it on your face for as long as you enjoy the scent!
  • Try not to lick your face. Or do it, YOLO.
  • Rinse with warm water, and there you have it!
  • Oh, did I mention that coffee scrubs target cellulite and stretch marks? You can thank me later.

Coconut oil as a teeth whitener and a lip scrub

I know, I know. Who likes the idea of an oily mouth? Nobody, but that’s the thing about this miraculous product is that it doesn’t even leave a thick hardened oily substance on your palate! The ingredients are as simple as:

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • use a toothbrush to apply mixture on your teeth, rinse (warm water) and viola!

For the lip scrub, all you need to do is put some coconut oil on a toothbrush and scrub your lips, there is no need to even wipe the oil off, as it can be used as lip moisturizer thereafter!

Coconut oil as hair treatment

For those of you who know me, you may know that I have super curly hair and it takes a lot of maintenance, I use this hair mask once a week and it has definitely made my hair grow! Not only is it cheap, but it is effective, it only includes 3 simple ingredients:

IMG_20161205_175811.jpg

Of course different measurements vary according to different hair lengths so it is better to estimate more or less how much of each ingredient should be applied on your hair.

  • Coconut oil contains proteins that stimulate hair growth.
  • Mix with Olive oil (Repairs split ends) and 1 whisked egg.
  • Use the mixture to massage deep in your scalp
  • Keep the mixture in your hair for about an hour, once a week.
  • Rinse, wash hair and style as usual.

Coconut oil to assist with make up

Ironically, coconut oil aids in the removal of make up as well as the application of make up, if you suffer from dry flaky skin and it is evident after applying base, then either mix your base or foundation with coconut oil, it also leaves your skin glowy (if that is a word). Below is a picture of how my make up looked after I had applied coconut oil (I also used it as a base for my powder highlighter). If you guys would like a youtube tutorial on this make up look (which, admittedly was a little dramatic) please comment below in the comment box 🙂

1480961248399

Tip: To remove make up with.. can you guess? Coconut oil. Simply rub it on your face and use a warm cloth to wipe everything off, it is amazing how easily your make up comes of!

Here are some other benefits of coconut oil:

  • It is good for your immune system.
  • You can use it as shaving cream replacement (whaaat?)
  • It evens uneven skin tones.
  • It prevents wrinkles and moisturizes skin.
  • No sun tan lotion? coconut oil.
  • It softens cuticles (for real guys, how great is this product?)
  • Unfortunately it can’t bring Channing Tatum to South Africa, it’s not that great.

xoxo,

Dauntless

img_20161106_154321Dauntless, a blog designed by Tameron Camp, with the prime purpose of changing women’s perspectives on themselves.

Due to issues of social media, we tend to compare ourselves to those who we consider to be better than ourselves. Truth is, everybody is beautiful in their own way, just as much as everybody is flawed in their own way. It is up to us to accept those flaws and embrace it.

As a first time blogger, I had fears of unacceptance and not getting the media coverage I desired, until I had realised that it was time for change. Our dreams should not be limited because of  fear of what other people think of us.  Truth is, some people are going to be critical about what you choose to do in life. What we need to do is build a foundation from those opinions and consider it room for improvement (or we could just say stuff it and move along).

Dauntless is an idea of being determined to pursue your desires, regardless of limitations. This blog emphasises that idea (oh, and it has really cool life hacks, beauty tips and yummy recipes!

Moral of the post:

  • Acceptance is key
  • Be happy in your skin
  • There is always room for improvement
  • Judgement is temporary
  • It is totally cool to binge watch series and drink an entire bottle of wine by yourself!
  • Dry shampoo is our best friend 🙂

Until next time,
